Motions

Motion in the name of Councillor Ciarán O'Moore

To request that Beaumont hospital are made to ensure free car parking for cancer patients or a designated family member or carer during their treatment.

Minutes:

Order: Amended Motion agreed

Motion in the name of Councillor Ciarán O’Moore

To request that Beaumont hospital are made to ensure free car parking for cancer patients and other chronically ill patients or a designated family member or carer during their treatment.

7b

Motion in the name of Councillor Deirdre Heney

That the manager, in relation to road safety outside the Howth Road Mixed National School, situated on the Clontarf Road beyond the junction with the Howth Road, carry out a complete safety review along this stretch with particular emphasis on:-

•  traffic passing the school is often passing at significantly high speeds which are extremely hazardous to parents and children as the drop off/pick up at the school. Traffic calming measures could be added to amend this.

• The school has very little signage to warn traffic exiting the city on the Clontarf Road. Flashing beacons and/ or clearer road markings could make road users more aware  of the presence of the school

• Drivers frequently breaking the lights coming on and off the Howth Road to and from the Clontarf Road

giving consideration to introducing some form of monitoring at this spot as pedestrians/school going children crossing at the "lollipop" crossing on the Howth Road have had a number of near misses in recent times.

Minutes:

Order: Report to Councillor

7c

Motion in the name of Councillor Deirdre Heney

That the manager in relation to the Cycle Lane (outbound on Clontarf Road just past the Howth Road) clarify the proposed plans regarding traffic on the Clontarf Road as to whether or not, the cycle lane will be a raised lane on the outbound side of the Clontarf Road, a dual cycle lane on the outbound lane and say when the matter will be coming before the Area Committee and also that the manager address the concerns of Howth Road Mixed National School (who currently have Drop Off (1 hour) and Pick Up (1 hour) times outside the school (outbound side of Clontarf Road)  as follows;-

serious concerns if a raised cycle lane was placed outside the school due to

a.fear you would overlook the current Drop Off and Pick Up arrangement in place.

b.fear that you would remove this important facility from the school community – this would be a big lose to our school.

c.if parents are allowed to park outside the raised cycle lane,

(i)  passengers would be opening car doors into bikes.

(ii)   passengers would be stepping out of the car into bikes.

(iii)  Drivers will have difficulty in getting out of the car safely with the width of the road reduced.

 also

d. it would seriously reduce the width of the road (currently 2 lanes) as it would make it very narrow for 2 lane traffic.

Order: Report to Councillor

7d

Motion in the name of Councillor Michael O'Brien

That this area committee supports the efforts of the Edenmore Residents Association to force the owner of the majority of units at the Edenmore Shopping Centre to contribute towards the necessary renovations and repairs at that centre and to arrange a permanent estate management facility so that all future occurrences of graffiti, littering, dumping and other instances of disrepair. Furthermore we call upon Dublin City Council to use whatever leverage is available to them to force the owner to take these required measures to end this blight in the community.

Motion in the name of Councillor John Lyons

This Area Committee recognises the positive contribution the Edenmore Boxing Club has made to the physical and mental well-being of the youth of the area and to the wider community over the last 49 nine years:

- supports the Edenmore Boxing Club in their search for a new permanent premises,

- fully endorses the proposal that the unused council depot in Edenmore Park becomes the new home for the boxing club,

- appreciates all the efforts of the area office staff to date and calls for a resolution to be found in time for the club to celebrate its fifty-year anniversary in their new premises.

Motion in the name of Councillor John Lyons

Recognising the importance of the Edenmore Shopping Centre as the sole commercial amenity in the heart of the community, providing as it does local employment, commercial and residential units, this area committee is shocked by the dilapidated and weekly deteriorating condition of many aspects of the shopping and residential complex and calls on the area office to outline the measures and actions the city council can take to ensure this significant landmark in the Edenmore area is brought up to the highest standards as is befitting a settled residential suburb such as Edenmore.
