To elect from the Members of the City Council a person to be Lord Mayor of the City of Dublin from 25th June 2018 to the day of the Annual Meeting of City Council to be held on on the fourteenth day after the date of the poll of the 2019 Local Elections. pdf icon PDF 210 KB

Ardmhéara Micheál MacDonncha opened the Annual Meeting of the City Council by thanking all those who had assisted him during his tenure, in particular the staff of the Mansion House and the Chief Executive’s Office, the Deputy Lord Mayor and other deputies and especially the Lady Mayoress, Claire Fitzgerald. He paid special tribute to the frontline staff of Dublin City Council who had shown great commitment in dealing with the very challenging adverse weather conditions the city had experienced over the last 10 months.

 

He detailed the high-lights of his year in office which included the promotion of the Irish language, his work on the Moore Street Advisory Committee and his trip to Palestine. He acknowledged the efforts of the Council to address the ongoing housing crisis but believed that the Central Government was failing to provide the Council with the support necessary to deal effectively with the issue. He concluded by wishing the incoming Lord Mayor all the best for the year ahead.    

 

Tributes were paid to the outgoing Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor by representatives of all the political groups on the Council, who thanked them for their service and congratulated them on the success of their year in office. 

 

It was then moved by Cllr. C Burke and seconded by Cllr. C Perry “That Councillor Nial Ring is proposed for the office of Lord Mayor of the City of Dublin for the period from 25th June, 2018 to continue in such office (subject to his death, resignation, disqualification, removal from office or otherwise ceasing to be a Member of the City Council) until his successor shall have been elected at the Annual Meeting of the City Council in June 2019”

 

It was then moved by Cllr. E Ryan and seconded by Cllr. A Keegan “That Councillor Michael O’Brien is proposed for the office of Lord Mayor of the City of Dublin for the period from 25th June, 2018 to continue in such office (subject to his death, resignation, disqualification, removal from office or otherwise ceasing to be a Member of the City Council) until his successor shall have been elected at the Annual Meeting of the City Council in June 2019”

 

It was then moved by Cllr. A. Feeney and seconded by Cllr. R McAdam “That Councillor Paddy McCartan is proposed for the office of Lord Mayor of the City of Dublin for the period from 25th June, 2018 to continue in such office (subject to his death, resignation, disqualification, removal from office or otherwise ceasing to be a Member of the City Council) until his successor shall have been elected at the Annual Meeting of the City Council in June 2019”

 

Following a vote, Councillor Nial Ring was declared to be elected Lord Mayor and he was invested with the Collar of SS and the Insignia of Office. Minutes:

The outgoing Deputy Lord Mayor Áine Clancy congratulated the new Lord Mayor on his election and wished him well for the year ahead. She thanked the outgoing Lord Mayor Micheal MacDonncha for his hard work over the last twelve months especially in relation to the Liam Mellows monument. She also extended her thanks to the staff of the Mansion House and City Hall for their support during her time in Office.

 

Lord Mayor Ringthen called for nominations for the position of Deputy Lord Mayor

 

It was moved by Cllr. C Ní Dhálaigh and seconded by Cllr. J Boylan “That Councillor Cathleen Carney Boud is proposed for the office of Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Dublin for the period 25th June 2018 to continue in such office (subject to her death, resignation, disqualification, removal from office or otherwise ceasing to be a member of the City Council) until her successor shall have been elected at the Annual Meeting of the City Council in June 2019”.

 

It was moved by Cllr. R McAdam and seconded by Cllr. K Binchy “That Councillor Anne Feeney is proposed for the office of Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Dublin for the period 25th June 2018 to continue in such office (subject to her death, resignation, disqualification, removal from office or otherwise ceasing to be a member of the City Council) until her successor shall have been elected at the Annual Meeting of the City Council in June 2019”.

 

Following a vote, Councillor Carney Boud was declared to be elected as Deputy Lord Mayor. Full details of the vote can be found in Appendix C to these Minutes.

 

The new Deputy Lord Mayor was then warmly congratulated by the Lord Mayor, Members of the City Council, the Chief Executive and staff.  The Deputy Lord Mayor thanked all the Members of the City Council for electing her and said she looked forward to working with the Lord Mayor, Council management, the Mansion House staff and Councillors from all political parties in dealing with the challenges that faced the City.
