Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

That this Committee, in recognising the status of 2018 as “Bliain na Gaeilge” agrees that Councillors and Officials should endeavour to promote the Irish language wherever possible in its meetings, communications, dealings with the public etc.  As a first step the Central Area Office should have all signage in both Irish and English and an effort should be made to facilitate any member of the public who wishes to conduct their business through Irish.

ORDER: Report to Councillor.

Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

That this Committee agrees that a suitable housing development in the North Inner City should be named after Liam O’Rinn (Liam Ring).  This is to recognise his role, (like that of Peadar Kearney and Patrick Heeney who have had housing complexes named after them), in the National Anthem, Amhran na bhFiann, given that he, like Kearney and Heeney, was from the North Inner City.

ORDER: Report to Councillor.

Motion in the name of Councillor Ciaran Cuffe

That this Committee invites in the Office of Public Works, given that the Phoenix Park is used by many residents of the Stoneybatter area for recreation, to outline what they can do to improve facilities for pedestrians and cyclists in the park, such as introducing zebra crossings, junction improvements or reorganisation of cycling facilities given that several tragic collisions have taken place in the Park in recent years.

ORDER: Agreed.  Letter to be sent to OPW.

Motion in the name of Councillor Gary Gannon

That this Committee agrees to allocate €50,000 of our Discretionary Fund budget to initiate a process of consultation with the surviving women that were incarcerated in Magdalene Laundries throughout the State, so that they may decide for themselves how they wish their experiences to be memorialised at the site of the former Magdalene Laundry on Sean McDermott Street.

            ORDER: Agreed.
