February 2018 Motions

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

21st February 2018

569      Councillor Críona Ní Dhálaigh & Councillor Ray McHugh

That this Area Committee supports the Canalway Educate Together, Basin Lane, Dublin 8’s campaign for additional and much needed funding for additional accommodation, upgrading of toilets, heating and windows. And call on the Minister for Education to meet with the parents and principle to hear their case.

570      Councillor Cllr. Hazel de Nortúin

This Council notes the 100th anniversary of granting (some) women the vote as a result of their heroic struggle for the suffrage.

It also notes how little progress has been made as regards women's participation in politics since the days when Countess Markievicz was the first woman elected to the British Parliament.  This Council recognises that the barriers to women's political participation are both ideological and material - particularly with no maternity or childcare support.

This Area Committee therefore supports the call for an urgent programme of action to counteract this blatant inequality and a solution to the practice of deducting pay for absence from Council meetings as a result of pregnancy, and connected health issues or child care emergencies.

571      Councillor Cllr. Tina Mac Veigh

This Area Committee agrees to meet with residents in Blackpitts to ensure priority will be given to a number of maintenance requests for roads, footpaths and the public domain.

572      Councillor Daithi Doolan

In noting the potential of the proposed Cherry Orchard LAP, this Area Committee calls on Dublin City Council Planning Department to fully engage with residents, community groups, services and statutory agencies during the process. This will ensure the community is central to any final agreed plan.

573      Councillor Pat Dunne & Cllr. Paul Hand

This Area Committee notes the successful usage of Pay as you Go Environmental Waste Compaction systems in a number of Local Authority areas outside Dublin. These compactors allow for householders to legally dispose of bagged household waste at convenient locations such as garage forecourts, supermarket car parks and civic bring centres.  The compactors have separate sections for brown, green and black bag waste. The provision of these pay as you go compactors gives an alternative method of disposing of waste without having to pay an annual service charge to a kerbside waste collection company. This system is particularly of interest to those households who do not generate significant amounts of waste. We ask our Waste Management Services to consider a pilot scheme for this system in Dublin South Central.

574      Councillor Cllr.  Greg Kelly

This Area Committee notes the HSE commitment to provide the best primary health care service for the community of Drimnagh, and that we recognise as councillors that the current Primary Health Care Centre is not up to the standard to provide this. We call on the relevant body whether this is HSE Estates or the Department of Health, and in turn the Minister, to make the funds available for the Curlew Road Primary Health Care Centre in Drimnagh. We ask  ...  view the full agenda text for item 8.
