The following Emergency motions were tabled:

 

 

Emergency Motion in the name of Councillor Christy Burke

 

"That this Central Area Committee calls on Dublin Bus not to remove the bus stop on East Road, East Wall as this would be a great inconvenience to local residents.”

Emergency Motion in the name of Councillor Christy Burke

 

"That this Central Area Committee the Chief Executive to erect a screen at Smithfield for the Dublin v Mayo All Ireland Final, this Sunday 17th September.”

ORDER: Agreed

 

Emergency Motion in the names of Cllrs. Nial Ring, Christy Burke, Ray McAdam, Eilis Ryan, Janice Boylan, Gaye Fagan, Ciaran Cuffe, Gary Gannon and Mannix Flynn

 

In light of the ongoing human rights situation in Myanmar (Burmah) and, in particular, the apparent inaction of leader Aung San Suu Kyi to alleviate the reported plight of the Rohingya minority there, this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to instruct the Law Agent to advise members on the procedures, mechanism and legalities involved in rescinding the Freedom of the City awarded to Aung San Suu Kyi, such action to be taken if the reported ethnic cleansing and/or genocide of the Rohingha people proves to be true and fellow members agree to this course of action.

 

ORDER: It was agreed by all members that background information be sought from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on the current situation in Myanmar before any steps are made to rescind the Freedom of the City Award from Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi.

 

 

 

Motion in the name of Councillors Nial Ring and Gaye Fagan

 

That this Committee requests Dublin City Council to put in place clear, unambiguous and explicit guidelines in place in relation to removal/protection of trees, with particular emphasis on having policies and procedures in place to speedily assess requests for tree removal from outside homes where roots are causing structural damage to the property, the emphasis of the assessment/recommendation being the retention of trees through root cutback or some other suitable solution.

ORDER: Report to Councillor.

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

 

That this Committee requests the Chief Executive to arrange a visit for the Central Area Councillors to the new Central Bank Headquarters on the North Wall Quay.

ORDER: Agreed. Letter to send to Governor of the Central Bank

 

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

 

That this Committee requests the Chief Executive to arrange a visit to the Jewish Cemetery on Fairview Strand for Central and North Central Councillors given that the leasehold interests in the cemetery and House and 65 and 67 Fairview Strand have recently been transferred from the Jewish Board of Guardians to Dublin City Council. Also, to request the Chief Executive to arrange that the visit would also include a brief talk on the history of the cemetery and an outline of the future plans for the graveyard and gate lodge.

ORDER: Agreed. Visit to the Cemetery to be arranged.

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

 

That this Committee agrees that an introduction/presentation ceremony should be arranged by the Chief Executive to acknowledge/recognise the recipients of grants under our discretionary Education Fund.

ORDER: Agreed.

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Christy Burke

 

That this Committee addresses residents concerns regarding the amount of rickshaws being stored in the quiet area of Richmond Cottages.

ORDER: Agreed. Letter sent to the Gardai and report requested from the Noise Control Section.
