DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

20th July 2022

M179   Councillor Máire Devine

This committee are dismayed at the possibility of yet another extinguishment of public access in the Liberties. The development of the Tivoli theatre on Francis St was given planning permission with provision of accessible open space as one of the conditions. If the recent application is granted it would nullify DCC’s objective to provide increased permeability in the area, is contrary to the City Development Plan, undermines the planning process and invalidates the community gain to compensate for the loss of this much loved theatre.

M180   Councillor Máire Devine

That this committee note the danger posed to the New Ireland Road residents given the significant increase in on street parking by outsiders which has rendered the road inaccessible for many vehicles including utility trucks. Of concern is the blocked access this poses to emergency “blue light services”. A Traffic management plan is urgently required that considers installing DYL and/or other effective measures to safely manage the access and provide a more tolerable environment.

M181   Councillor Máire Devine

That this committee congratulate the Liberties Weavers who are proactive in reintroducing the skills of the Loom to the Liberties, once the heartland of Dublin’s textile industry and we look forward to them presenting to the members at a mutually suitable date in the Autumn.

M182   Councillor Máire Devine

This Committee agree to extend an invite to a delegation of residents from Reuben St. Dublin 8 to present to the members issues negatively affecting their street so discussion and solutions be agreed upon.

M183   Councillor Vincent Jackson & Councillor Hazel De Nortúin

That this committee and Dublin City Council supports the community of Ballyfermot / Cherry Orchard in its efforts to retain the 79 Bus service which is a lifeline to the local population. We support the residents’ concerns regarding the proposed changes to the 79 bus route in Ballyfermot. It is unbelievable that Bus Connects seems to think a bus service in operation serving some of the most disadvantaged housing estates can be withdrawn with any consideration. If this services is removed without any further consultation, those most vulnerable in our community will be affected. This Committee will write to the NTA and ask that they delay any changes until residents’ concerns around accessibility are heard by the NTA and are fully explored before removing any services.

M184   Councillor Vincent Jackson

That Dublin City Council investigate the possible employment of a specific staff member similar to other areas in the South-Central Area in order to focus on the physical regeneration of the retail areas, business areas. Ballyfermot is screaming out for the recruitment of such a staff member who will liaise with traders, business people, school groups, community groups to deliver a more pleasant working / living environment for all.

M185   Councillor Daithí Doolan

The Area Committee congratulates Dublin City Council, in particular the community development staff, for the effort put in to making the recent Ballyfermot-Cherry Orchard Arts Festival a huge success.

M186   Councillor Daithí Doolan

This Area Committee calls on Dublin City Council to immediately commence a consultation process with stake holders and agrees a timeframe for the development of the multi-purpose sports pitch at Cherry Orchard Park in line with the Cherry Orchard LAP.

M187   Councillor Sophie Nicoullaud

That this Committee support the maker space TOG in identifying DCC owned building for them to call home permanently in support and to promote creativity in the city to support and to encourage this active and innovative community group working with technology. To ensure that the cultural and innovative life of the city have a permanent space to thrive and to be anchored in the local community. TOG has been the first volunteer based maker group in Dublin always present to promote technology and science at every public opportunity.

M188   Councillor Sophie Nicoullaud

That this Committee invites the County Childcare Community to present their organisation and discuss how we can work closer together to make sure childcare facilities are present in the area.

M189   Councillor Sophie Nicoullaud

That this committee supports the Inchicore Regeneration Consultative Forum in regaining trust in their relationship and collaboration with DCC. They are very dissatisfied with response sent to them. Trust needs to be regained as a matter of urgency so the group and the community don't feel let down. That Coilín O'Reilly meet with the group asap.
