Agenda item

M.84     Councillor Sophie Nicoullaud

That this Area Committee calls on DCC Parks department to secure more funding to look after and enhance its open spaces and tree lined street. That this committee recognise trees as a public asset with a long-term return on investment.  That this committee organises to make tree maintenance a priority to avoid having to cut trees by the dozens in Brickfield Park. That this committee ensure that the right size trees are planted to create a legacy for future generations.

M.85    Councillor Tina MacVeigh

Given the extent of development ongoing and planned in the South West Inner City, this Area Committee agrees that area wide Construction Traffic Management Protocols be put in place as a matter of urgency so as to attempt some level of coordination that might mitigate the impact on our residential communities and our roads. Further, this Area Committee agrees that these protocols should be developed with a view to expanding them across the city. This matter to be referred to the Transport SPC.

M.86    Councillor Máire Devine

That this Area Committee agree to commence discussion on locating suitable and respectful site(s) within the area for the installation of memorial/sculpture in memory of local people we have lost in this pandemic and to commence planning for this remembrance and recognition for an agreed appropriate post-covid date.

M.87     Councillor Daithí Doolan

That this Area Committee agrees to develop a cycle plan for the Ballyfermot-Drimnagh area. This plan will aim to promote and provide for an increased use of bicycles in the area with targets and a timeframe to provide infrastructure and resources to meet these targets. A report and action plan will be presented to the committee within 6 months of this motion being passed.

M.88    Councillor Sophie Nicoullaud

That this Area Committee follows up on the work started with the Drimnagh’s future – the Integrated Area Plan (IAP) to put walkers, wheelchairs users and cyclists at the top of the transport chain. Drimnagh is suffocating with cars. A system of one-way streets needs to be put in place. Main roads like Mourne road needs to have cycle lanes and traffic going slower, roundabout needs to be adapted to let walkers, wheelchair users and cyclist cross safely. 12,000 people live in Drimnagh and many more will be added in the near future, it is time to prioritise slow modes of transport. That this committee acknowledge the great work and persistence of Drimnagh Blockers to alert the authorities on the out of control car situation in the area.

M.89    Councillor Máire Devine

That this Committee endorse An Taisce’s statement that  local residents, community groups and heritage bodies have  become the bulwark against planning chaos in our area. Furthermore, we demand that An Bord Pleanalá is resolute in its duty to protect and conserve our historic urban landscape and prioritise these values when deliberating on development applications. This city and it’s communities are under siege from inappropriate and incongruous developments.

M.90    Councillor Máire Devine

That this Area Committee requests that the Director of Services liaise with the responsible Minister, seeking to allow the “Safari Crèche” at Clancy Barracks complete alteration works, so parents can be confident that the 110 children will be able to attend. Many of these parents are frontline workers and are unable to go back to work without childcare provision.
