The following emergency motions were tabled:

 

 

Emergency Motion in the name of Councillor Gary Gannon

 

That the members of the Central Area agree to hold a ‘Commemoration of Truth’ event in the chapel of the Sean McDermott St former Magdalene Laundry site, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the State’s first apology to victims of child abuse which was made on May 11th 1999.

ORDER: Agreed.

 

Emergency Motion in the names of Councillors Ray McAdam, Gaye Fagan & Christy Burke.

 

 

That this Committee, following on from the recent JPC Policing Matters Public Meeting in East Wall, agrees to formally request Helen Smirnova and the Traffic Engineers involved with the Neighbourhood Traffic Scheme project meet with representative group of residents from East Wall to discuss the ongoing traffic management issues in East Wall. Traffic and Parking issues dominated this policing meeting which highlighted the severity of the situation and of the need for Dublin City Council to act in preparing for a Traffic Management Plan for East Wall.

ORDER: Agreed.

 

Emergency Motion in the names of Councillors Ray McAdam, Gaye Fagan and Christy Burke

 

That this Committee, following on from the recent JPC Policing Matters Public Meeting in East Wall, requests that the Area Manager met with Engineers along the Royal Canal to examine how best homes along Bellmans Walk, Ferrymans Crossing, Canon Lillis Avenue and Lower Oriel Street can be best secured and protected following the opening of the new cycle and pedestrian greenway along the Canal. Boundary walls have already been damaged and householders want these protections agreed prior to the main construction works beginning on site.

ORDER: Agreed.

 

Motions to the Area Manager

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Christy Burke

 

That the Central Area Committee agrees that the bridge on Spencer Dock be put on a program for cleaning as it is a vital part of the history of the Docks area and it is in need of a facelift.

ORDER: Agreed.  Report to Councillor.

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Ciaran Cuffe

 

That the Central Area Committee agrees that 6, 7 and 8 Parkgate Street be considered for inclusion on the list of Protected Structures including the shopfront interior of No. 6 and that the Manager report back to this committee with a report on the issue.”

ORDER: Agreed. Report to Councillor.

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Ciaran Cuffe

 

That the Central Area Committee agrees that with regard to parking on East Wall Road between East Road and Church Road, that the Area Manager put in place an appropriate residential parking scheme in partnership with local residents, using either pavement indents, road markings or a combination of both, to address the current situation in which residents park on the footpath. In coming up with a scheme can the Manager note that the single carriageway road is quite wide.

ORDER: Agreed.  Report to Councillor

 

Motion in the name of Councillor Eilis Ryan

 

In light of the exceptional contribution of Sean O’Casey to heritage in the North Inner City, that the Central Area Committee agrees to commit to support the erection of a plaque to Sean O’Casey at 422 North Circular Road, where he lived and wrote many of his best known plays, including The Shadow of a Gunman.  The Committee commits to writing to the Commemorations Committee in support of the application, and requests officials to begin a process of establishing the support of the building’s owner, in order to facilitate the plaque.  The Committee further agrees to provide funding if necessary to pay for the plaque.
