DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

16th January 2019

668      Councillor Greg Kelly (deferred from December 2018 Area Committee Meeting)

That this Area Committee offers its full support to the Bluebell community and all the staff in the Bluebell Community and Youth Centre. The break in and vandalism that happened in November was an attack on the community and will not be allowed to deter the great work done from the Centre.

669      Councillor Tina MacVeigh (deferred from December 2018 Area Committee Meeting)

That the Area Manager employ any available regulations or guidelines regarding appropriate shop front displays or advertising that could be employed by the area office to compel the adult entertainment shop on James St. to remove the obscene image which depicts a scantily clad woman in a wholly sexualised and sexist manner. Ireland has advanced in leaps and bounds towards a society that holds women and their rights in greater regard. This image is not appropriate.

670      Councillor Greg Kelly (deferred from December 2018 Area Committee Meeting)

That this Area Committee calls for more regular cleaning of the gullies on Davitt Road. With the increase traffic on this road and the expected extra trucks using it the gullies will get blocked more often. The recent rain has shown that there is an issue with flooding occurring outside St John Bosco Youth Centre.

671      Councillor Tina MacVeigh

This Area Committee agrees that the Dublin City Council owned site at Marrowbone Lane be used for the purpose of much needed local authority housing and sports fields of a size that can be used by the many field sports clubs in the area for training and competitive games, and to this end wholly rejects any proposal to locate a depot at this site.

672      Councillor Daithi Doolan

That this Area Committee congratulates and recognises the efforts made by the Cherry Orchard community and City Council staff in organising donations and support for the family who were victims of a heartless break in during Christmas week.

673      Councillor Ray McHugh

This Area Committee agree that in the proposals for a new dressing rooms for the Brickfield Park, St John Bosco FC, are accommodated with 3 Dressing rooms, 1 Disability toilet, 1 referees room, and a storing space.  This is what the club have at the present time and, as the biggest club in the area, this needs to be recognised in any future planning.

674      Councillor Vincent Jackson

That this Area Committee seeks from Dublin City Council Planning Department, the necessary change in planning regulations to compel all future retail facilities going for planning / refurbishment, the provision of public restrooms in the developments. All over Europe you can avail of facilities without much hassle, however we have the worst level of services available. If it were part of the planning requirements within a few years we would have proper facilities available for all.

675      Councillor Ray McHugh

This Area Committee agree that with any development to the dressing rooms in Brickfield Park, the smaller all weather pitch will be retained or replaced with a similar size pitch 60 x 30.

676      Councillor Vincent Jackson

That this Area Committee agree that given the high cost of management of various housing co-operatives etc., at what stage will Dublin City Council see the merits of developing sites on its own without the need to include others. Can the Area Manager please explain why we don`t just develop and is it more expensive to involve housing agencies on DCC owned sites etc. I would ask that going forward we develop all our sites ourselves for social, affordable developments ourselves.
