Santry: Councillor Roe requested that the format of DMR reports be written as opposed to the list of figures, requested Chair of JPC write to Superintendents regarding same, agreed. Issue in relation to Santry being moved was raised also by Councillor Roe and Superintendent Mc Carthy reiterated that this is due to happen in first quarter 2024 however the community policing team will stay the same which is 1 sergeant & 6 Gardai for Santry & 1 sergeant and 8 Gardai to Ballymun.

 

Raheny/Clontarf: Councillor Heney requested update on the 50,000 upgrade to Fairview Park skate park, Mick Carroll to follow up with Fergus O’Carroll. Inspector Barker advised that there has been success with bogus crimes through both THOR & HYDRID operations being increased in the area. Deputy O’Riordan raised issues around Safety Forums and asked Manager to contact Harmonstown as few issues in this area that could be brought to the Edenmore Safety Forum. Mick Carroll will follow this up with Deputy O’Riordan. Councillor Mac Donncha requested a review of safety fora take place to ensure all areas are covered and be brought back to next meeting. Derek Farrell agreed but stated no restrictions to expanding the areas however extra forums not an option due to staffing issues. Bruce Philips advised that there is currently 3 pilot schemes in operation in relation to a major reform and once this has been completed results will be brought back to this committee. A number of Councillors raised concerns around the recent racial and threatened arson attacks in the area and were advised by Chief Superintendent Duff that it was impossible for An Garda Siochana to police the internet but assured the committee that Dublin City Council should continue to link in and advise of any issues that may be of concern. Both Councillor Cooney & Councillor O’Muiri raised concerns around Fairview Park and the fencing that is in need of repair and that a commitment was given by Dublin City Council on 8th Jan that this would be repaired however up until 13th Jan this was not the case, Bruce Philips will follow this up with Andy Walsh re the C2CC. Inspector Barker gave a commitment around on the ground Garaí in this area.

 

Coolock: Superintendent Barry was unable to log back into call & advised all members if they have any queries in relation to report issue that they can email him directly and he will reply.

Derek Farrell Verbal Update

Minutes:

Derek Farrell advised that Section 38 application is in process for Darndale to be brought up to standard. Councillor Cooney requested to know what other areas will be included as she is interested in Causeway due to illegal dumping. Councillor Heney requested a follow up on this issue also as Waste Management Services had been deadling, Mick Carroll to follow up.  Illegal dumping would come under the Circular Economy Bill which has become an Act however until the LGMA agree the regulations of this Act this is on hold. Bruce Philips advised that he would follow this up with the LGMA as due end of 2023 & agreed that this committee will write to the Minister for an update on the progress. Councillor Heney advised all members to ensure this matter Is raised at meeting with Assistant Chief Executive in the coming weeks.

New Garda Station

Derek Farrell to give verbal update.

Minutes:

Deputy O’Riordan asked if Coolock station would be incorportated into this plan which Chief Superintendent Duff advised that it was intended for the station to be moved in this new plan. Councillor Gilliland suggested that pop-up/Garda Clinics be looked at being installed in either Cromcastle Court or the underpass development. The exact location of the proposed Garda Station is on the lands opposite Tesco, to the south of the Hilton hotel. Councillor Barron would not be in support of pop ups, it’s a station that is needed. Bruce Philips to provide a full written report on what the plan was and now is and will circulate to all members. Item to remain on the Agenda.
