Chief Supt. Ward presented crime statistics for the year to date and compared them to the statistics for the same period in 2016.  Supt. Markey gave a presentation in relation to strategic objectives in the JPC work plan and reported on the Old Motor Tax Office building.  The presentations were noted and the following matters were raised:

 

·         Members expressed their support and gratitude to the Gardaí for the North Central Garda Youth awards that took place recently.  This Committee to forward letters of congratulations to all who received awards.

·         Figures on number of court cases commenced since enactment of the new prescription drugs legislation to be brought to next meeting.

·         Supt. Flavin to liaise with Dublin City Council and Crime Prevention Officer regarding the security gates at Ballybough House.

·         Supt. Markey reported that there will be extra patrols in the Ormond Square area during December.  A location for a CCTV camera in the area will be examined.

·         Councillors thanked Garda members for their great work with local communities and commended them on the approach taken with the homeless.

·         Members of SAPs will be calling to doors again following up on the interviews that were conducted 3 years ago.  Members of JPC welcomed this initiative.

Update on Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station

Chief Supt. Ward and Supt. Flavin reported that the refurbishment of Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station is being progressed.  Planning permission to be lodged before Christmas and tendering process also moving forward.  Members welcomed this and the report was noted.

a)    It was agreed at the July meeting of the Dublin City Joint Policing Committee that each Area Joint Policing Subcommittee would establish a Parks Subcommittee in their respective electoral areas to specifically address issues around antisocial behaviour in the parks in each area. 

The membership of the Central Area Parks Subcommittee will include Cllr Janice Boylan, a representative from An Garda Síochána and a community/business representative.  This to be finalised in the coming days.

b)    Actions Agreed
