Lord Mayor's Business PDF 5 MB Additional documents: Minutes: A minute silence was held to remember Councillor Larry O’Toole’s son Darren, who recently passed away. Councillor O’Toole thanked the Lord Mayor and members for their support during this very difficult time.
The Lord Mayor spoke about the victims and families of the Stardust and mentioned the 50th anniversary of the Dublin Monaghan bombing.
He informed the Members that it was agreed at Group Leaders that the following motion in the name of Councillor Máire Devine would be taken without debate. It was proposed by Cllr Máire Devine and seconded by the Lord Mayor “That This Council acknowledges that the provision of sport and pitch facilities is essential for healthy thriving cohesive communities. The lack of adequate facilities is most keenly felt in the Liberties, Dublin 8 area where disadvantage and inequality has disproportionately impacted upon the lives of children. It therefore notes and welcomes the Chief Executive’s recent commitment to accommodate a full size, multi-purpose playing pitch on the Marrowbone Lane site.
This Council expresses its unanimous support for the provision of the playing pitch and now directs the Council Executive to expedite its delivery - and calls upon the incoming Council to ensure this matter is prioritised and progressed as a matter of urgency.”

Councillor Mary Freehill was invited to say a few words following her retirement from the City Council after over 40 years of service to the City.The Lord Mayor thanked Mary for all her service, hard work and commitment and wished her well in her retirement. Members were reminded of the evening to be held in the Mansion House on Friday 17th May in recognition of the service of the Councillors not seeking re-election. The Lord Mayor wished all those well in the upcoming elections.

“That the City Council agree to establish a pilot initiative in the #NorthInnerCity to encourage and engage communities in order to create more playful, healthy and inclusive public places. Such an initiative should be piloted within the North Inner City given the lack of outdoor space within family homes. It can enable inner city communities to get the most out of the resources that they have and allow them to enjoy the places where they live, and for children, adults, older people, to have somewhere that’s close to home for them where they can rest, they can play, communities can come together.”

The following motion was proposed by Councillor Keith Connolly and seconded by Councillor Mary Callaghan
“That Dublin City Council agrees to lease site 31 in Ballymun to Ballymun Kickhams. a) The fee is abated to a nominal fee until such a time that site 31 is fully developed. b) The club retain Pairc Ciceam for a period of 30 years to allow for club development and expansion.
The motion was not agreed. The Executive agreed to set out possible alternatives for development for the site and bring a report to the next Council. |
