Lord Mayor's Business PDF 362 KB Additional documents: Minutes: The Lord Mayor opened the meeting by expressing condolence to the family and friends of the late Jim Barrett, former City Architect, who died recently. A minutes silence was held as a mark of respect to the deceased.
The Lord Mayor then expressed the appreciation of all the Elected Members to the staff of Dublin City Council, including Dublin Fire Brigade and all front line workers, Civil Defence, the local communities and all other agencies who worked to keep the city moving and working over the recent weather. The Chief Executive joined in the praise and commendation of the dedication of all the people involved. He then proceeded to give an update on the recent snow and storm event. Mr Dennis Keeley, Acting Chief Fire Officer, also gave a report to the meeting. Full details of this combined report can be found in Appendix A to these minutes.
The Lord Mayor then informed the Members that he would be supporting the “Dublin Honours Magdalenes” event to be held in the Round Room at the Mansion House on 5th and 6th June and that the Central Area Committee have agreed a contribution towards this event. He also sought and was granted approval for Members attendance at the Nuclear Free Local Authorities Seminar on the Friday 9th March.
The Lord Mayor then introduced Ms Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority and Ray Coyne, CEO of Dublin Bus who briefed the City Council on city centre traffic plans. They gave comprehensive reports on the problems and issues facing the city in terms of traffic management and connectivity and also outlined the proposed solutions to these problems. Full text of their reports can be found in Appendix B and Appendix C to these minutes. Following discussion, Members put questions to Ms Graham and Mr Coyne which were answered where possible, Members were informed that additional queries could be emailed to either/both parties. The Lord Mayor thanked both CEOs for taking the time to attend the City Council meeting and expressed appreciation on behalf of the Members for their input.

The motion was put and carried. The Chief Executive advised the meeting that he is preparing a report on staff resources for the Service Delivery Plan and Resources Working Group. The report will cover Assistant Chief Executive and Area Manager positions. He undertook to send the report to the Members when it becomes available. It was also agreed to place this item on the Agenda for a future meeting of the Corporate Policy Group. |

The unregulated use of Airbnb for accommodation aids the upward increase of rents in our city, allows unscrupulous landlords and individuals avoid paying taxes and negatively impacts on the housing and homeless crisis our city is facing. This motion requests that Dublin City Council does everything in its power to investigate and stop this practice taking place in our City and furthermore requests that this motion be sent to the Minister for Finance and the Revenue Commissioners for appropriate action to be taken at a national level".
