Emergency Motions

Additional documents:

Minutes:

The order of business was suspended to deal with the following Emergency Motions:

Emergency Motion 1

The South Central Area Committee calls on the minister for housing to extend the ban on eviction until further notice.

We are faced with an emergency housing crisis. On top of the all the homeless people we have, more families, single adults, couples are being evicted daily because their landlord is selling their house. They have nowhere to go. We cannot let this situation get any worse and under such an emergency, extending the ban is the fastest solution the government can take to stop making people homeless.

Cllr Sophie Nicoullaud

Order: Agreed to write to the Minister for Housing

Emergency Motion 2

We would like to propose the following emergency motion for tomorrow's meeting of South Central Area Committee.

In light of the ending of the eviction ban, this Area Committeee asks DCC to continue to seek urgent engagement with the landlord of Tathony House and an appropriate AHB to ensure the property is acquired for use by the local authority and to prevent homelessness for the tenants in situ.

Cllr Deirdre Cronin, Cllr Máire Devine, Cllr Dáithí Doolan, Cllr Darragh Moriarty, Cllr Hazel de Nortúin

Order: Agreed.

March 2023 Motions

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

15th March 2023

M234   Councillor Vincent Jackson

This Area Committee asks the City Council to consider the possibility / feasibility of constructing a municipal Ice Skate Rink within the City of Dublin.  It is hard to believe that there is not one Ice Rink within the Republic of Ireland and can we ask that a temporary facility be located with the City for the 2023 Christmas period.

M235   Councillor Vincent Jackson

In view of the serious issues with An Garda Síochána’s ability to satisfactorily police the Ballyfermot District within the current structure that this Committee seeks from the Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner the upgrading of Ballyfermot Garda from a substation to a District / Divisional Garda Station something similar to what pre-dated our amalgamation with Clondalkin in the early 000's. It is no longer acceptable that our Garda numbers are nearly halved over those years resulting in a serious reduction in policing levels whilst at the same time there are serious issues which need addressing. I was given assurance at the time of us losing the District Headquarters designation there would be no loss of services. This has proved to have been a disaster for my community.

M236   Councillor Vincent Jackson

That Dublin City Council, The Department of Justice etc. please speed up the proper development of the Cherry Orchard Implementation Group after many months of surface activity we are still awaiting some movement on this essential body to proceed with the structural deficits which plaque this great community, please we don't need more ministerial visits we need proper movement, Cherry Orchard will continue to be plagued with Social problems until we address many issues which have for so long been ignored much to the cost of the community.

M237   Councillor Deirdre Cronin

This Area Committee asks, following the presentation by Rehoboth Residents at the January 18th meeting, that DCC undertake a site visit, meets with residents and addresses in writing all traffic, safety and access issues raised.
