Emergency Motions

Minutes:

This Area Committee expresses deep disappointment that the €30m URDF funding proposal for Cherry Orchard was not successful. This funding was important to laying the foundation for the Cherry Orchard LAP and would have underwritten the support from Central Government for the future development of Cherry Orchard.

The Committee agrees that the Chair writes to the Department expressing our frustration and disappointment at the decision and calls on the Minister to ensure alternative funding is made available to works outlined in the DCC proposal.

Cllrs Daithí Doolan and Sophie Nicoullaud

Order:  Agreed without debate

March 2021 Motions

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

10th March 2021

M.91     Councillor Darragh Moriarty

Now that the consultation with local residents has been conducted with regard to the regeneration of Oliver Bond, this Area Committee calls for Dublin City Council to urgently allocate funding towards the following:

·         The establishment of an Oliver Bond Regeneration Board with a dedicated independent chair

·         The employment of dedicated Regeneration Worker to liaise with the local community to ensure concerns raised can be addressed in a timely and efficient manner, and to build trust with existing residents.

·         Interim fixes to substandard housing for tenants who can’t wait 10 or 12 years for the regeneration to be completed.

·         The provision of technical assistance, such as a neutral architect and the non-architectural drawings, which can be understood in layman’s terms so that residents can better understand the implications of proposed regeneration changes.

M.92     Councillor Daithí Doolan

This committee notes with concern the absence of any cycling strategy for Ballyfermot, Bluebell, Drimnagh, Crumlin or Walkinstown.

Therefore this Area Committee calls on DCC to act immediately and include Dublin 10 and Dublin 12 in Dublin City's cycle strategy.

M.93     Councillor Máire Devine

That this Area Committee seek clarity on the enabling/construction work schedule at the HSE site on St James Walk/Basin View and express grave concern following reports that asbestos removed several months ago remains at the site.

M.94     Councillor Máire Devine

That this Area Committee welcome The Iveagh Trust reclaim of the iconic Iveagh Market and look forward to working collaboratively in its restoration and development.

M.95     Councillor Máire Devine

That this Area Committee acknowledge that dog fouling is of major concern and a health hazard  for our community and that present solutions have limited impact on irresponsible dog owners. We call on the manager to provide a report on the installation of  a container, in a suitable location , that converts dog waste to methane to  power. This will capture dog owners imagination and result in the use of the methane to power street lamps and provide fertiliser for the community.

M.96     Councillor Máire Devine

This Area Committee agree that following on from the agreed motion regarding commemoration for those we have lost in this pandemic at last month’s Area Meeting, to ask the Manager to consider the site for this remembrance, be at the old Fever Hospital, Cork Street?
