Minutes:

Motion 1 from Councillor Dermot Lacey

This committee requests the manager to have the following issues on Emor Street addressed and resolved:

  1. Bad potholes on the road repaired. They are dangerous.

  1. The street lighting lampposts are very bad - paint faded, large black spots etc.

  1. The Emor Street, street sign at the Ovoca Road end needs replacing; some of the letters are not visible.

  1. That a fresh ballot of residents to consider extending the parking hours takes place.

Order: Report to councillor.

Motion 2 from Councillor Frank Kennedy

This committee resolves that the manager shall write to the National Transport Authority (NTA) to ask when it intends to release information on the public consultation process for the NTA scheme for the Sandymount Merrion Blackrock Corridor / Merrion Gates proposal.

Order: Agreed.

Motion 3 from Councillor Paddy McCartan

That this area committee expresses its concern and the concern of residents in Portobello over the renting out by a homeowner of 16 bunk beds in a three bedroom house. Charges of up to €445 for each resident apply a month.

Recently permission has been granted by Dublin City Council for a large 2-storey structure in the garden of the property. The architect who prepared the application said he was shocked to learn of all these people living in the house and was told by the landlord that he wanted more space to raise his family.

Serious issues of compliance in relation to fire, and health and safety regulations need immediate resolution.

There was recently a fire in an apartment building in Mountjoy Square in which estimates say there were between 70 and 150 people living in the building.

Order: Agreed.

Motion 4 from Councillor Claire Byrne

That this area committee supports the members of North Port Dwellers’ Association and the other local residents in their complaints regarding the blatant breaches of permitted working hours that is taking place in the Docklands area and calls on the area manager to address this issue as a matter of urgency, and to cease granting further extensions to working hours for other developments in the area as a mark of respect to the residents enduring such disturbance and noise pollution at night and weekends.

Order: Agreed.

Motion 5 from Councillor Claire Byrne

That this area committee objects to Andrew’s Street Church being promoted for commercial use and agrees that it should be maintained for cultural uses only.

Order: Agreed.

Motion 6 from Councillor Claire Byrne

That this area committee supports the residents of Synge Street in their campaign to address the rise in anti-social behaviour resulting in car theft, vandalism and illegal dumping in the area and calls on the area manager to outline what will be done to address these issues as a matter of urgency.

Order: Report to councillor.
