DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

21st October 2020

M.58    Councillor Hazel de Nortúin

Given that:

- to date there is no progression on the development of the Grand Canal cycle path program between Portobello and Bluebell and;

- due to the ongoing public health crisis people are being encouraged to walk and cycle to school/work rather than use public transport and;

- there has been calls from residents and public representatives alike for the installation of safe pedestrian crossings at Herberton and Suir road bridges for the past six years at least

The South West Inner City and South East Area Committees agree that, as a matter of urgency, pedestrian crossings will be installed at these locations by Dublin City Council as part of the Covid-19 roads and traffic works being carried out to facilitate social distancing and public health and safety during the pandemic.

M.59    Councillor Maire Devine

That this Area Committee acknowledges the 2020 Year of the Nurse and Midwife, as designated by WHO and erect a Míle Buíochas on billboards adjacent to the largest hospital, St James’s and other suitable healthcare sites in the South Central Area.

M.60    Councillor Tina MacVeigh

In order to deal with the perpetual problem of litter caused by illegal dumping and bin bags being left out too soon before collection, this Area Committee agrees to:

·         Initiate an initiative to crack down on illegal dumping and premature placing of bins in the area of the Liberties that use bagged waste collection service

·         Issue a communication to residents to inform them of same, the responsibilities of residents in regard to the timely placing of waste for collection, the responsibilities of waste management companies as to the collection of waste

·         Enforcement of penalties for bagged waste left out prematurely or waste not collected as scheduled by waste management companies.

M.61    Councillor Daithí Doolan

That the Area Committee congratulates the Bluebell Environmental Group for the immense work they have done in collecting rubbish and removing weeds in Bluebell and that Dublin City Council will work with them to continue improving the quality fo life for Bluebell residents.

M. 62   Councillor Hazel De Nortúin

This Area Committee supports the recent established group Ballyfermot Anti-Racism Network. This group aims to make Ballyfermot an inclusive and diverse welcoming area to those living and moving into the area.

M.63    Councillor Maire Devine

That this Area Committee agree that the works due to take place at the 40 Steps would include the steps being used to highlight historical events/dates.  The steps link 2 areas of great historical significance and the steps would be an ideal way to highlight this.

M.64    Councillor Tina MacVeigh

A group of residents who live in the environ of the Pimlico Green have, in response to escalating levels of noise, disturbance emanating from fireworks, bangers, fires lit and damage to the public domain, come together to develop a series of proposals to the local authority. In light of this, this Area Committee agrees to a special meeting to be held with said Pimlico Residents, public representatives and the Area Office so as to discuss their ideas, with a view to collaborative and community led solutions to this problem, which is seriously impinging on the right of residents to the enjoyment of their home and is causing colossal disturbance and damage in the community realm.

M.65    Councillor Daithí Doolan

This Area Committee condemns in the strongest possible terms the recent outdoor party held in Oliver Bond House. It was wrong and should not have happened. Those involved in its organisation should face the full rigours of the law.
We welcome the announcement by An Taoiseach that funding will be made available to fund a regeneration plan for Oliver Bond House.
This regeneration must be focused on meeting the long term needs of residents with a programme of full consultation taking place with residents, youth services and community groups before any plan is agreed.
