Lord Mayor's Business Additional documents: Minutes: In Memorium A minutes silence was observed for the passing of former Lady Mayoress Mary (May) O’Halloran who was Lady Mayoress in 1984 / 1985 while her husband Michael O’Halloran was Lord Mayor.
Tributes The Lord Mayor spoke to members regarding the horrific attacks that took place in Stoneybatter on Sunday 9th February 2025. She paid tribute to the wonderful people of Stoneybatter who looked after and looked out for each other in a real demonstration of their close community bond. She also paid tribute to the first responders, Dublin Fire Brigade and the Gardaí, for their swift and decisive action. She expressed that all our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and those affected by the events of yesterday and wished them a speedy recovery.
Welcome back The Lord Mayor welcomed back Councillor Catherine Stocker on her return to the office of Councillor following her recent absence and thanked Councillor Patricia Roe for her work over the past few months.
Ethics Declaration The Lord Mayor reminded members that their Annual Ethics Declarations are due by the end of February.
Meeting as Gaeilge Following on from last year’s March City Council meeting being held through Irish, the Lord Mayor informed Council that she had received some enquiries and also a request from Councillor MacDonncha on behalf of the City Council’s Coiste na nGaeilge in relation to holding the March City Council meeting in Irish. She advised that having discussed with the Corporate Policy Group and staff within the City Council that it is proposed that a Special Meeting be held in March to highlight the work being done by the City Council to promote and support the delivery of services in Irish. A commitment is also given that from 2026 onwards, the March City Council meeting will be conducted through Irish with early planning to assist both the elected members and staff to deliver the meeting.

This Council supports the redevelopment of Basin Street and amends the following on pg.2-3 of the Report: Reorder the Community, cultural and arts space; Public Open space; and Communal Open Space to retain proposed playground, exercise equipment, smaller amphitheatre space, planting and to provide for a larger enclosed Muti-Use Games Area (MUGA) – at least 500-600sqm in size.
