Minutes:

The following emergency motions to the Area Managers were tabled.

Emergency motion in the name of Councillor Janice Boylan and Councillor Christy Burke

This Area Committee notes the ongoing works by Hammersons on Moore Street and the negative affect this is having on business on the Street. We call on DCC to take all necessary measures to ensure minimum disruption to businesses and to compensate businesses that are negatively affected.

ORDER:  Agreed.

Emergency motion in the name of Councillor Ray McAdam

That this Area Committee calls upon the Parks, Biodiversity and Landscape Department to immediately commit to and undertake the planting of replacement trees along Kirwan Street at the earliest possible opportunity, thereby replacing the recently removed trees along the street, on foot of an arborist report.

ORDER:  Agreed.

The following motions to the Area Managers were tabled.

Item 1

Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

That this committee welcomes the Dublin Port 3FM project and, in particular, the community element which includes, inter alia, recreation facilities, development of a maritime village, and a €2 million community benefit fund supporting education, heritage and maritime skills projects locally. Furthermore, this committee agrees to forward this motion to Dublin Port Company for inclusion in the public consultation process.

ORDER:  Agreed.

Item 2

Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

That this committee requests the Head of Park services to examine the possibility and feasibility of the provision of a dedicated dog park within Fairview Park modelled on the hugely successful similar facility in St. Anne’s Park.

ORDER:  Agreed.

Item 3

Motion in the name of Councillor Nial Ring

That this committee notes the decision by An Post to relocate its operations to the Exo building on East Wall Road in order to facilitate an extensive refurbishment of the GPO. In welcoming An Post back to the North Docks area where its Central Sorting office operated for over 70 years on Sheriff Street, the committee also notes and welcomes the extensive and meaningful community engagement already undertaken by An Post in advance of its move.

ORDER:  Agreed

Item 4

Motion in the name of Councillor Janice Boylan

That this central area committee fully supports the greening of our communities. However this must be done with full and transparent community consultation. Where the majority of residents living on the streets in question are listened to especially when they took the time and effort to come together and engage with everyone through surveys etc. We cannot ignore the wishes of those who live on the streets, they are the ones who know what’s best for the streets. We need to acknowledge that some streets just can’t take the greening programmes ear marked for them. For example Finn Street in Dublin 7.

ORDER:  Agreed
