Darndale Implementation Oversight Group

Minutes:

Dympna McCann gave background for the newly elected members to the NCA, and update.   2023 report and Autumn newsletter to follow in the coming days.

Attendance at Community Representative Forum meetings remains disappointing. 

JL commended work of IOG in tackling deep seated issues in Darndale.

Main issues remains taking in charge, Garda resourcing, particularly new Garda station.   Hard work of Sgt Brian Judge and team in Coolock acknowledged.

Councillors advised that they do not need to wait for meeting when they have issues of concern; they can email Superintendents directly; email addresses available via the North Central Area Office.

 

Promote “see it say it” message with public – call 999 or Garda Confidential line (1800 666 111).

 

Coolock:

Issues with resourcing acknowledged, difficulties in recruiting in public service in general, and AGS in particular.  Appointing additional community Gardai remains a priority.  There are 7 community Gardai for Coolock, and Superintendent Barry expects to appoint two additional staff by year end. 

The ongoing situation at Crown Paints is a continuing drain on resources.  The proposed/rumoured sites at Thornton Hall and Turvey Golf Club are also under the remit of Coolock.

AF requested that letter be issued to Minister for Justice re resourcing – Area Office to action.

Councillors expressed concerns over rumours circulating on social media regarding activity at Crown Paints. Elected representatives can contact RB directly with concerns. 

AGS continue to keep communication open with protestors on site. RB mentioned the danger to community from arson attacks as there is asbestos present in the building.

Department of Justice funding received to invite community groups to Wonderlights in Malahide.

Request for DCC to provide Light up Coolock Village Community event.  Area office to follow up although it is quite late to begin a project such as this..

Domestic Violence Unit established in Coolock, priority on dealing with high number of incidents in area.

 

Raheny/Clontarf:

Superintendent Grace reported that Raheny/Clontarf Gardaí supported summer concerts in Fairview park, and Pedal Palooza.   Actively managing the run up to Halloween.  Thank you to DCC for removing bonfire material so promptly. 

Domestic violence a priority, focus both on investigation and support, dedicated staff member available to support victims.

Graffiti and ASB remain issues on the dart line, AGS providing a visible presence on Dart line.  Request public support in reporting.

 

Councillors raised following issues:

  • Anti-social behaviour, particularly among 12-16 year olds
  • Concerns from business community re ASB, graffiti, increase in theft from shops
  • More visible presence needed in Raheny/Clontarf

 

Superintendent Grace aware of issues with ASB, will attempt to deploy more resources.  Also aware of business concerns, stressed importance of reporting incidents.

JG would welcome meeting with councillors to discuss – DB to contact JG,

 

Santry:

Superintendent McCarthy reported a significant decrease in all main areas and an increase in arrests. 

Large increase in theft of/from vehicles, in majority of cases vehicles were not locked. 

 

5.

CCTV/LGMA Circular Economy Bill

Minutes:

It is hoped circular Economy Act will impact illegal dumping.

Still awaiting rules and codes of practice re the Garda Siochana (recording devices) Act 2023. 

There are five cameras in operation in Darndale, six requiring repair and four requiring replacement.

Pole for CCTV on Spine site cut down.  Area office are exploring off grid solution for Moatview camera. This requires a significant investment. 

There was an information meeting between DF, Waste Management and councillors to hear concerns.   DCC tender in process – DF to check progress and report back.

 

6.

New Garda Station

Minutes:

DCC working hard in background with OPW and multiple government agencies.  DCC to follow up with OPW re land transfer.

 

7.

AOB

Minutes:

Six Halloween events being organised by Area office.  LD to issue list to councillors.

 

Public Domain team will be working up to Halloween removing bonfire material, stockpiles can be reported via citizen hub or Area office.
