The following issues were raised and a response was given by members of An Garda Síochána present at the meeting: -

·         Serious issues of antisocial behaviour in the Ballyfermot area

·         Level of policing in the Ballyfermot area

·         Allocation of extra resources to the Ballyfermot and Kilmainham Garda Stations

·         Serious antisocial behaviour of young people at Bridgefoot Street, Lansdowne Valley and Spa Road

·         Positive feed back on the recent Garda operations in the Bluebell/Inchicore areas

·         Aggressive begging at Meath Street

·         Enforcement of illegal parking at Rialto, Reuben Street and around the Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.

·         Use of Community Gardaí in the Area.

a)    To formalise the following: -

The Members determined that Basin Street will now fall under the remit of the 

Canal Communities Policing Fora, (see attached correspondence to the Chairpersons of the Canal Communities and the South West Inner City Policing Fora notifying them of the determination).                                                    

 

 

b)    The Members agreed that a further letter be forwarded to the 

      Taoiseach’s Office requesting a meeting with Kieran Mulvey to

      commence as soon as possible now that he has presented proposals to

      rejuvenate the North Inner City, (see attached correspondence received from the Office of An Taoiseach).

a)    The members requested that Parking Enforcement of the Traffic Control Section investigate the continual illegal parking along the Cork Street and Dolphin’s Barn area, paying particular attention to the illegal parking of cars on the bicycle lane at Lidle on Cork Street, and the illegal parking causing obstruction at Spar Shop at Dolphin’s Barn area.

 

b)    The members requested a presentation on Community Impact Statements Pilot Scheme for the next JPC Meeting in September.

Councillor Críona Ní Dhálaigh’s submission, (Question 10 May Area

Committee Meeting)

1.    To request that action be taken on the serious level of anti social behaviour and rough sleeping now taking place at dry canal at the back of Mount Shannon Rialto.

            Councillor Vincent Jackson’s Submissions:-

2.    In view of the serious rise in Anti-Social behaviour in the Lawns Park & Californian Hills Park Ballyfermot Dublin 10 & the serious concerns park users / residents have with the lack of Garda response when issues are brought to the Garda attention, that both DCC & Senior members of An Garda meet with various representatives to hear at first hand the serious issues that are happening on a daily / weekly basis without any sanction of the institutions of the state issues include drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, vandalism, alcohol consumption, dogs & horses.

 

3.    That DCC & An Garda Síochána seek to address the ongoing problem of large groups of youth up to 40 to 50 who regularly congregate along the main shopping district of Ballyfermot playing music through large mobile music systems at all hours of the night, the area is left in a shocking state with waste etc after they disperse.

4.    The Area Committee supports the request by the Ballyfermot Policing Forum for an urgent meeting with the Garda Commissioner and Minister Fitzgerald to address the lack of adequate Garda resources in Ballyfermot and the urgent need to increase the allocation of Gardaí to this Station and explore ways of ensuring increased Garda engagement and visibility with the people of Ballyfermot, Cherry Orchard, Chapelizod and Palmerstown.
