Chief Supt. Ward presented the crime statistics for the year to date and compared them to the same period last year.
Noted that 10 new Garda members will start in the Division this week. The Drug Squad is at optimum levels and details of drugs seizures will be forwarded to Councillors.
Chief Supt. Ward provided details of the new Community Support Van and also an overview of the floor plan for Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station.
Members welcomed these initiatives and commended Chief Supt. Ward on the high level of engagement with the community. |

Homeless facilities in the Central Area Additional documents: Minutes: Members expressed concerns in relation to a particular homeless facility that had anti-social behaviour associated with it. John Durkan from Homeless Services reported that future tenders for facility operators will include a requirement to engage with An Garda Siochana at an early stage.
The possibility of a licensing system for people providing services on the street was discussed. John Durkan to liaise with colleagues in Licensing Section. |

Additional documents: Minutes: The issue of social housing in the Spencer Dock area was raised. The Chairperson informed the Committee that the matter is on the Agenda for the Central Area Committee meeting scheduled for 12th June.
Noted that the issue of illegal dumping is on the NEIC Implementation Group Agenda.
A meeting with all stakeholders to be arranged regarding anti-social behaviour in Little Britain Street area.
Noted that all Councillors wish to be invited to the Garda Youth Awards this year.
An open consultation should be held to look at all the options regarding St. Laurence’s Place East. Agreed that no structure would be erected without the approval of residents. A public meeting is to be arranged and consideration given to forming a sub-committee regarding the issue of anti-social behaviour at this location.
