Minutes of meeting held on November 14th 2017

Agreed.

Cllr. Daithí Doolan paid tribute to Declan Wallace, on the occasion of his upcoming retirement, for the significant contribution he has made to Dublin City Council in a number of departments during his 43-year service.

 

2.

Presentation on Roads Policing

Minutes:

Presentation by Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid and Superintendent Thomas Murphy noted.

It was noted that Dublin was officially Europe’s safest city in 2012. 

 

3.

Report of Assistant Chief Executive

Minutes:

Report noted.

Irish Prison Service representative to attend next meeting.

 

 

4.

Report of Assistant Garda Commissioner

Minutes:

Report noted.

Garda numbers are still down 881 on 2007 figures owing to retirements and moves to both other jurisdictions and specialist units.  However numbers are set to increase in 2018.

5.

Correspondence on Quad Bikes from North West Area (attached - deferred from November 2017 meeting)

Minutes:

Noted. 

This issue will be addressed by the Parks Subcommittee, which held its first meeting last week and are scheduled to meet again in March.  Possible solutions will be explored, including the potential for allocating an area solely for the use of quad bikes and possibly updating legislation.  However there are first a number of issues which will need to be addressed around safety, insurance etc. and An Garda Síochána have advised their representatives not to give chase to those on quad bikes due to risk of accident / injury.  Councillor Perry referred to problems getting offenders to engage with youth workers seeking to resolve the issue.

Action:  A.C. Leahy to request Superintendent Aidan Reid to provide an update on the legislation around this to the next meeting.
