Motion in the name of Sebastian Vencken

That in light of the continuing planning challenges affecting Dublin’s historic core, and in particular the North Georgian Core, this meeting of the Planning and Urban Regeneration Strategic Policy Committee of Dublin City Council asks the Dublin City Council Planning Department to:

1.    Clarify the in-house skills in architectural conservation, distinct from those in the Conservation Section, the Planning Enforcement Section currently employs.

2.    Confirm whether it is intended to recruit an accredited Planning Conservation Officer, akin to the role formerly held by Mr. Frank Egan prior to his retirement, to ensure robust and expert oversight of conservation matters.

3.    Outline what proactive measures, in accordance with the Dublin City Task Force Report and the commitments in the Programme for Government, are being taken by the Planning Department to enhance on-the-ground engagement in Dublin’s Inner City. In particular, the Committee requests specific details on the Department’s approach to:

·                     Addressing unauthorised developments in the North Georgian Core (NGC)

·                     Monitoring and rectifying unauthorised subdivision or change of use of  protected structures 

·                     Enforcing regulations concerning shopfront signage

·                     Enforcing regulations concerning alterations to the exterior of   protected structures

We request that the Chief Planner prepare a detailed report in advance of the next meeting of this Committee, setting out the actions and timelines envisaged to tackle these matters effectively.
