Ciara O hAodha presented on the funding and projects from Europe and that Dublin City Council have been successful with. The chair thanked Ms O hAodha for her presentation. Mr Sweeney enquired if Dublin City Council was the lead partner in the applications and if any other parties were involved?

Mr Sweeney sought clarification on the additional EU support initiatives and how it remedies with other initiatives the council works with on EI, SPIR etc. Cllr. Cooney mentioned a handshake project which would be great to be involved with and would like more information. Cllr. Ring asked has there been enough funding applied for, if there is changes to the EU funding coming in 2021 which may cause issues. Cllr. Freehill thanked Ms O hAodha for the report. Cllr. Freehill feels that Dublin isn’t featuring in Europe and that we need work more with other parties to ensure that we still have a presence. Ms O hAodha advised that she will liaise with Grainne Kelly and get more information which can be circulated to the members. Mr Shakespeare commented on the learning as an organisation from these projects, there is a staff member who is embedding these processes in the organisation and it is ongoing. Mr Shakespeare referred to Cllr. Freehill question on third level and collaboration, he advised that they are very much involved as the expertise lies with these institutions and therefore there is high level of engagement with universities and the Smart Cities team in particular. Cllr. Freehill wants clarification if negotiations have started with the Department of Finance. The Chair advised that clarification will be sought and a definite answer will be circulated by the officials to the members.

Anthony Flynn gave an update on International Relations. Discussion followed and questions were addressed, he also advised a list of delegations will be circulated to the members. Greg Swift updated the SPC on the works in the Local Enterprise Office. Discussion followed and queries addressed.

Mary MacSweeney advised the committee on the updates for Dublin.ie, Economic Development and Smart Cities. Discussion followed, questions addressed.

Issue Raised by Cllr Mannix Flynn requesting a report on the footfall in city and also local employment.

 

Order:    Chair sought clarification on if it was within the remit of the SPC and will revert back at next meeting.
