October 2024 Motions

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

16th October, 2024

M021   Councillor Vincent Jackson

That this committee accept a deputation from De La Salle GAA Ballyfermot into our next Area Meeting in relation to the possible provision of a municipal All Weather Football Pitch at Californian Hills Park Ballyfermot Dublin 10. Ballyfermot has no suitable full size All Weather Football Pitch and with the changing weather patterns it is becoming impossible to play on grass pitches for long periods hence going forward we will need to develop alternatives such as All Weather Pitches etc.

M022   Councillor Máire Devine

It’s almost a year since the tragic death of a cyclist at Dolphin’s Barn bridge and our thoughts are with her grieving family and friends. We are concerned that further agreed safety measures are yet to be provided at this dangerous junction and ask that they urgently be installed.

M023   Councillor Máire Devine

Some tenants felt disenfranchised at the recent local elections as they discovered at the polling stations not to be registered. This was especially evident with those who had recently moved into new developments. We ask that the Council Electoral Department review and recommend measures to ensure inclusion and promote participation in the democratic process.

M024   Councillor Máire Devine

This Committee congratulates the Irish Architecture Foundation and all participants in the upcoming “Open House Dublin” In particular the Friends of The Iveagh Markets who are planning an exciting event on 19th October at an adjacent site. We ask that the schedule of works at the Iveagh Markets, Dublin 8’s architectural marvel, be completed in time for this prestigious event next year.

M025   Councillor Máire Devine

With the loss of Anne Devlin’s portrait “ Matriarch Patriot“ @Maserart in Meath St  this Committee requests that a replacement portrait/image of Anne Devlin be displayed at a prominent location in the Liberties

M026   Councillor Ray Cunningham

This Area Committee recognises the work that has been done by the local residents to make the green on Benmadigan Road a real amenity for the area, and calls on the council to make it easier for people to use the green by: adding access paths on the north and south sides of the green; adding raised-table crossings connecting to those paths, to make it safer to cross the road there; replacing the barrier at the east end of the green with a wheelchair-accessible gate (or removing the barrier completely).

M027   Councillor Ray Cunningham

This Committee notes that pocket forests (also known as stepping stone forests or mini woodlands) have been successfully planted by South Dublin County Council as an alternative to planting individual trees, and asks the Parks department to identify suitable locations for similar dense planting of mixed species on green spaces in Walkinstown.

M028   Councillor Hazel de Nortúin

This Area Community will write to the Housing Manager and the Leasing Department and ask why the 5% cultural/community space in Tristan Square wasn't included in the leasing agreement? For obvious reasons, this needs to  ...  view the full agenda text for item 7.
