This Committee is aghast at proposals to remove the wild flower areas at Fatima Luas stop as a solution to ASB. Leave the flora and fauna in situ and ask that the Local Authority seek other strategies that provide real deterrent to criminal activity while allowing nature blossom for the enjoyment of all linear park users.

Emergency Motion 2 - Cllr Daithí Doolan, Ray Cunningham,

Máire Devine and Jen Cummins

This Area Committee condemns the recent violence in Coolock. The scenes witnessed at the former Crown site on the Malahide Road were deplorable. The burning of vehicles and attempted burning of the building are violent criminal acts and must be strongly condemned.

Those responsible should desist immediately. This is an effort to spread fear and hate in our communities and the vast majority of decent people want nothing to do with it.

The Department of Integration has stated that the site is to be developed to accommodate families applying for international protection.

Any concerns that people have about this should be raised peacefully and democratically. Violence, intimidation and arson should have no place in our communities.

Everyone deserves respect, including men, women and children due to be accommodated at this site.

Equally, we need to see constructive engagement with communities to ensure that all necessary facilities are in place for both the local population and those accommodated in the centre.

We call on the chair of this Area Committee to circulate this motion to other Area Committees, to the Minister for Justice and the Minister for Integration.

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

M001   Councillor Ray Cunningham

The Committee notes that many people in the south-west of Drimnagh are without easy access to green spaces and playgrounds. The committee also notes that the former Lansdowne Valley pitch and putt course is in council ownership, but has been closed for years. The committee calls on the Parks department to provide a timetable for the opening of this space as a park, connecting through to Lansdowne Valley Park, and to include a playground and community garden in the park plans.

The Committee recognises that the village of Chapelizod is being overwhelmed by traffic - massive congestion at some times of the day, and speeding cars when the roads are clearer. It is unsafe for children to walk to school or sports, or for people to cycle through the village. The committee calls for a traffic plan to be developed for the village, in consultation with residents, to reduce through traffic and improve safety.

The Committee notes that there is a persistent problem with illegal dumping at the bottle banks beside Walkinstown library, and calls for the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor the location.

This Committee expresses deep disappointment and frustration once again on the 3rd anniversary of the fire that closed Donore Community Centre. We insist that the council pull out all stops so that the agreed timelines for restoration are abided by –

. Tender to be issued in June.
. Completed tenders to be assessed in early August.
.  Contract to be signed in August and building works to begin in September.

Any delay must be avoided at all costs, those costs already have had detrimental effects on the community of Donore.

This Committee expresses strong dissatisfaction with the “RobinsonsGate” saga that is way past its due date. We insist that this essential protective measure for our vulnerable senior citizens be addressed and prioritised now

This Committee agree that a dedicated cleaning crew be assigned for the Liberties with particular concentration on Meath, Thomas and Francis Streets- the main economic hub/spine of the Liberties.

This Committee demand urgent action to protect school children and others as they cross what amounts to a “Motorway” at Chapelizod By-Pass at Inchicore. While BusConnects project has detailed plans for this significant junction it needs to be revised.  Safety measures are needed now. We call on the Traffic Department to meet with Gaelscoil Inse Chór including the young pupils to discuss and prioritise appropriate measures before the next school year
