DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

16th November 2022

M204   Councillor Vincent Jackson

That Dublin City Council please ensure that proper fit for purpose re-instatements of all footpaths in the Ballyfermot Area takes place as the current situation with one contractor is leaving a lot to be desired. We have holes in the footpath, barriers all just left in a poor state in addition some of the re-instatements are very poor with no proper details or proper finishes. Can DCC please tell me who is responsible to ensure the works are carried out to a satisfactory state.

M205   Councillor Vincent Jackson

That DCC please report on the Fire Officer`s decision to prevent the usage of the Car-Park on the Metropolitan Apartments in Inchicore Dublin 8 at a time the residents, management company were in constant contact. The Fire Officer claims the progress was too slow from his initial concern on the 13th of January last. The works on top of an extensive Fire Alarm system put in at the owner’s expense in 2018 will result in additional costs of approx. €2,500 per apartment this is causing difficulty for some tenants in these inflationary times. To date 50% to 60% of the funding required has being collected it is very draconian to leave many vulnerable people without car-parking and without any real alternative. I am very surprised how all these serious defects passed the building regulations at the time of construction. I would welcome an opportunity to question our Fire Department of what`s going on at the above complex and is this something other property owners are going to have to address, will apartments have to be vacated?

M206   Councillor Vincent Jackson

That Dublin City Council approach the owners of the now closed De La Salle School Ballyfermot Road to look at re-purposing the use of the School to house the people of Ukraine in these difficult times, the School could be retro fitted fairly quickly to provide a reasonable location for families escaping the current war being waged by the Russian Federation on the population of this Country.

M207   Councillor Vincent Jackson

This Committee calls on DCC to give the members a verbal update on the legal limbo in relation to the Iveagh Markets Francis Street Dublin here we are over 25 years since the Market closed and this iconic building continues to fall into near total disrepair. How much longer do we have to wait to take back full ownership of this part of Dublin built heritage?

M208   Councillors Daithí Doolan and Vincent Jackson

This Area Committee congratulates Dublin City Council, local youth services, community groups and Emergency Services for working together to ensure this year's Halloween was successful, safe and enjoyable.

M209   Councillor Daithí Doolan

This Area Committee expresses deep frustration and concern at the poor level of service provided by the new G Spine Bus Connects for residents in Ballyfermot, Cherry Orchard and Inchicore.

This Area Committee calls on the National Transport Authority  ...  view the full agenda text for item 7.
