March 2022 Motions

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

16th March 2022

M158   Councillor Vincent Jackson

In the interest of proper animal welfare and the shocking case of another horse drowned at the Grand Canal Ballyfermot / Bluebell recently that this committee invites in My Lovely Horse project to make a presentation to our next meeting in April at 2.30pm to give this valuable organisation any opportunity to update the members on serious animal welfare issues they encounter on a daily / weekly basis.

I should point out animals need the support of people like ourselves to speak / act on their behalf. I regret for some of these animals they have a very poor life as a modern capital city in the first world we need to appreciate more than ever good animal welfare.

M159   Councillor Daithí Doolan

To mark World Autism Awareness Day and to create awareness of Autism and the complex needs of children and adults with Autism the South Central Area Committee agrees to light up council offices and buildings in rainbow colours on April 2nd and encourages other services to do likewise.

M160   Councillor Daithí Doolan

This Area Committee commends all those involved in the From House to Home-Making Cherry Orchard Better plan. This plan lays the foundation for providing long term solutions for the community.

To ensure the plan is successful we need support from central government.

This committee calls on the relevant Ministers to visit Cherry Orchard, meet with residents and community groups and to fully support and resource the plan.

M161   Councillor Sophie Nicoullaud

That the Director of Services work with the parks department to find the necessary funding to provide as soon as possible children play facilities for the increasing young families population in Chapelizod where there is no playground there. To provide for a playground as a priority for the area left with zero facilities compared to other areas.

M162   Councillor Máire Devine

DCC have not completed the final installation of the P & D scheme for Rialto Street. It is currently providing free parking to construction workers from the NCH site who are shifting planters to park and have scant regard for the neighbourhood. The hatching and DYL at the 2 Avenues are yet to be installed. DCC need to follow through and conclude the process that took painstaking negotiation and was fast tracked last year. These outstanding issues are essential to equitable operation of this P & D.

M163   Councillor Máire Devine

That DCC provide a report on the traffic chaos and safety risks at Reuben Street Dublin 8 with a view to trial a “one way system” so its effectiveness and feasibility can influence a permanent one way alteration of vehicular traffic.
