February 2022 Motions

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

16th February 2022

M149   Councillor Máire Devine

That this committee reluctantly acknowledge the timeline for the reopening of the Donore Community Centre to be 2023/2024. It is an unacceptable wait for the community and they urgently require meantime dedicated spaces. This committee will source appropriate space/buildings( like prefabs or the use of the vacant Weir Home For Nurses) ,on a temporary basis, in the Donore area and fast track all that is required to allow community groups gather again.

M150   Councillor Máire Devine

That this Committee expresses its frustration at the lack of progress in the demolition of the derelict buildings at Dolphins Barn. That the members be updated on the proposed housing development by AHB.

M151   Councillor Darragh Moriarty

That this Area Committee calls for the erection of a plaque to commemorate the life and death of Ettie Steinberg, believed to be the only Irish victim of the Holocaust, who lived, grew up and went to school in Dublin 8. She and her family lived at 28, Raymond Terrace, off the South Circular Road (now Raymond Street) and she went to school at St. Catherine's in Donore Avenue. Either location would be appropriate for the erection of a commemorative plaque.  This is long overdue and would be a fitting way for this Area Committee to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, which took place 30th January 2022.

M152   Councillor Darragh Moriarty

That this Area Committee notes with disappointment that DCC were unsuccessful in their attempt to relocate a community sports amenity from the St. Michael’s Estate regeneration site to the nearby Mercy Secondary School.

This Area Committee restates its strong preference for DCC to follow through on not one, but two previous iterations of drawings that saw the community sports pitch retained on the St. Michael’s Estate redevelopment site.

This Area Committee calls on DCC to revise its latest plans to incorporate the delivery of a community sports pitch immediately next to Inchicore Sports Centre to ensure proper management, supervision and access to changing facilities.

M153   Councillors Daithí Doolan, Sophie Nicoullaud and Hazel de Nortiún

The South Central Area Committee commends the cooperation shown by City Council management, community groups, youth services, Gardaí, City Councillors and TDs in working together to tackle the causes and consequences of the recent violence and anti-social behaviour in Cherry Orchard.

This committee supports the package of actions and resources agreed for the area and encourages the relevant Government departments to match fund this plan for next number of years.

This Committee further calls on the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee to upgrade Ballyfermot Garda Station and to provide it with adequate staff and resources to ensure the community enjoy a full and proper policing service.

M154   Councillors Daithí Doolan, Sophie Nicoullaud and Hazel de Nortiún

In noting the intense level of private development planned for Drimnagh and along the Grand Canal, the South Central Area Committee calls on DCC to ring-fence the levies from these developments  ...  view the full agenda text for item 9.
