Emergency Motions

Additional documents:

Minutes:

The order of business was suspended to deal with the following Emergency Motions:

Emergency Motion 1

This Area Committee urges Dublin City Council to review the decision to install a cycle lane between Conyngham Road and Bulfin Road, with particular focus on the section at the shops along South Circular Road, Kilmainham. The bollards are causing serious access problems for business.

We also urge Dublin City Council to communicate directly with businesses and local residents, outlining the consultation process that took place and the resoning behind the decision to install the cycle lane along this section on South Circular Road.

Councillors Daithí Doolan and Vincent Jackson

Order:  Withdrawn.

Emergency Motion 2

Phase 2 of the BusConnects Network Redesign will be launching on 28th November in West Dublin. In Chapelizod, the work on the passengers access to the bus stop at the Chapelizod Bypass stop has not commenced. This leaves Chapelizod residents cut out of the new C-Spine. AT the same time only the 26 bus will remain and all the other routes will be terminated. It leaves Chapelizod residents cut out totally from West Dublin and Kildare. I urge DCC to liaise with TFI to remediate to this issue. An urgent solution needs to be in place for the 28th of November. Access to the Chapelizod Bypass stop needs to be in place for the 28th and a bus connecting to West Dublin and Kildare needs to remain and be functioning for the 28th of November. I would urge DCC to work with TFI and for both to take on board proposals from the residents and bus users in Chapelizod.

Councillors Sophie Nicoullaud and Hazel De Nortíun

Order:  Agreed to write to TFI and the Minister for Transportation.

November 2021 Motions

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL

SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE

17th NOVEMBER 2021

M134   Councillors Vincent Jackson and Daithí Doolan

That the Elected members congratulate all various DCC Departments, Community Groups and emergency services for their sterling work in providing a very family friendly oriented Halloween across the South Central Area and a report be drawn up for the elected members on the outcome of the various activities on the ground.

M135   Councillor Vincent Jackson

That this Committee seeks from An Post a commitment to increase the size of the main Ballyfermot Post Office to create a fit for purpose facility for the thousands who use the current facility on a weekly basis. Ballyfermot has now lost nearly all its Banking services which the recent closure of Bank of Ireland and the scaling back of Banking services in Permanent TSB. 20 years ago there were 4 building societies, 3 Banks.  We now have one PTB branch which does not accept cash and a Credit Union for nearly 25,000. I am aware the Post Offices are operated by contract. An Post could ensure when contracts are up for renewal the branch has the capacity to meet existing and future needs especially when the Post Office network continues to take on more business. The recently closed Bank of Ireland branch would and could make an excellent Post Office offering modern facilities. I regret a common sight in Ballyfermot is large queues outside on the public footpath and many using the service have children or are elderly.
