July 2020 Motions DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL SOUTH CENTRAL AREA COMMITTEE 15th July 2020
M.47 Councillor Daithí Doolan This Area Committee congratulates DCC on the completion of the skateboard park on Le Fanu Road. To ensure that the park remains a resource for the whole community we call on DCC to ensure:
1. It is properly and adequately fenced in. 2. Locked at night. 3. CCTV provides security coverage and is monitored in real time. 4. Bollards are erected at the Blackditch Road entrance 5. A zebra crossing is installed at the Blackditch Road entrance. These works are to be carried out in an agreed time frame as soon as possible.
M.48 Councillor Vincent Jackson That Dublin City Council please ensure that day to day management of the new skateboard park in the Le Fanu Park, Ballyfermot, is put in place to address the disgraceful behaviour of a small number of users of the facility. Neighbours are very disappointed that the facility was opened without notice and without security. We can all see what has happened over the past week since opening, however, much of this could have been prevented. I would ask that all issues be addressed as a matter of urgency to address most of these problems:- · Opening / Closing times · Age appropriateness of equipment · Railings, · Signage · Barriers, · Bins · Refurbishment of pavilion · Security cameras etc.
We are going to arrange a meeting with An Garda Siochana, Youth Services and Dublin City Council officials. Neighbours have also requested they meet. With the experience of Covid 19 I would have hoped as a public health issue the ability of being able to lock up parks / play facilities would be incorporated as a feature going forward.
M.49 Councillor Daithí Doolan The South Central Area Committee takes the opportunity to congratulate Eileen Flynn on her historic appointment by An Taoiseach to the Seanad. We wish Eileen all the very best in her new role.
