2.    List of facilities and services we provide

3.    Have any been affected by staff shortages or waiting on maintenance

4.    Closures due to staff shortages

5.    Any upgrade works proposed

2A Motion in the name Councillor Conor Reddy and Councillor Leslie Kane

The North West Area Committee notes the recent implementation of Phase6a of the BusConnects project and the significant changes in the Ballymun area in particular. Despite these changes and some of the benefits they bring to the area, specific areas of Ballymun have been left without a service close by (Shangan, Coultry, Whiteacre, Sillogue) – these had convenient reliable services in the past but none today. This makes it difficult for older people, people with mobility issues and those with young children to take the bus.

NWAC further notes reports of repeated cancellations on the N6 route which have resulted in children being late for school, workers being delayed getting to work and local people missing scheduled appointments.

North West Area Committee will write the NTA covering requesting:

I.              An explanation for repeated cancelations on the N6 service in January 2025 and a record of reliability and punctuality on the route for each month of the last year.

II.            An outline of measures that will be taken to ensure reliability of the N6 is restored and maintained.

III.           A meeting with local representatives and community workers/volunteers to discuss broader issues with the bus service in Ballymun.

2B Motion in the name Councillor Conor Reddy

The North West Area Committee notes concerns of local residents around public safety in Kildonan Park, especially the presence of drug waste and paraphernalia, including syringes in the park. NWAC notes and commends the efforts of DCC Parks and Waste Management in addressing challenges with the park and with other parks in the North West area. However, safety in the park remains a serious concern for many who use it, including the Junior Parkrun.

NWAC therefore calls for:

An audit of the use of the park by local sports clubs, community groups to capture attitudes to the park, to better understand deterrents to use/enjoyment and to collect data that may be useful in any future improvements made to it. This audit could be carried out internally by the Council – by surveying the community online, by engaging directly with clubs and community organisations.

Local Area Office and interested Councillors to meet with groups like Junior Parkrun to discuss possible solutions to problems with the park. Invite could be extended to the Community Policing Unit at Finglas Garda Station and addiction services in the local area.
