That the Manager outlines proposals to deal with the roads/footpaths infrastructure in the North West Area. Currently there are many areas where the footpaths are lifting and where the roads are broken or potholes are present. Having one of the most elderly populations in Western Europe (HSE claim) we need to ensure our roads/footpaths are in a good condition to prevent falls/accidents.

That grass cutting and cutting of grass edges happens at the same time in a coordinated manner in the North West Area. As in many areas edges are left over grown.

This committee supports the retention of the current route of the number 11 bus.  Residents are campaigning for the retention of this important public transport service for the local community. The No.11 serves our three main Dublin universities and many primary and secondary schools on one continuous route and facilitates access to these institutions for residents from both sides of city.

That the area committee supports the naming of the co-op houses in Poppintree after Rose McNamara  or Róis Nic Chon Mara who was a member of member of Inghiní na h-Eireann from 1906 – 1921 and Vice-Commandant of Cumann na mBan in 1916.

Motion in the name of Councillor Noeleen Reilly

 

That the area committee expresses concern that Ballymun and Whitehall are excluded from the Dublin Airport Community Fund.   This is contrary to what was advised to councillors after a recent presentation at the Dublin Northwest area committee.

The promised works for St Margaret’s Halting site are badly needed but it will lead to an overcrowding situation meaning many families will have to enter the homeless system.  This area committee now needs to identify land for Traveller Appropriate Accommodation.

That the council work with Waterways Ireland to prepare a continuous walk-way along the river Tolka between Drumcondra bridge and the Botanic Gardens, and investigate continuing the walkway eastwards through the Botanic Gardens and Glasnevin cemetery to connect with Tolka Valley Park, and investigate connecting eastwards through Tolka Park.

That the Council works with DCU, the Glasdrum Arts and Cultural Committee, and local residents associations to set up a Drumcondra Festival.

That the Council works with local volunteers to re-open the pool club that was so successful in Ballymun for years.
