Additional documents: Minutes: Motion 1 from Councillor Dermot Lacey This Committee requests that attention - including signage, a special clean up and attendance by Dog warden at Oxford Road, Ranelagh to try and deal with the appalling amount of dog dirt in the area. Order: Report to Councillor.
Motion 2 from Councillor Dermot Lacey This Committee requests a response from the Traffic Department on the issues raised in the email submitted regarding safety on Shelbourne Road.
“I would like to raise a longstanding safety issue for pedestrians crossing Crampton Ave along Shelbourne Road.
This crossing is heavily used by people, especially during commuting hours, as many people go back and forth from Ballsbridge village to Lansdowne train station.
Currently there is no traffic light or other means to cross safely. At all times, pedestrians must attempt to run across the road whilst motor traffic has a green light to pass through the junction. In addition, the width of the crossing due to the unnecessary curve of the junction means pedestrians have to travel across 25 meters before reaching the other side.
The presence of a left-turning lane also adds to the danger for pedestrians as many motorists are focused on finding and exploiting a gap in traffic to join Shelbourne Road, with limited consideration for crossing pedestrians.
I'd appreciate any push for a temporary measure as a first step, to show people in the area how safer and less stressful it could be for pedestrians/commuters in the area. A simple, cheap solution - two planters, one in the slip lane and one at the corner by (Details Supplied) Lansdowne Gardens would immediately reduce the risk of someone getting knocked down by an unaware motorist or cyclist. Order: Report to Councillor.
Motion 3 from Councillor Pat Dunne This Area committees is gravely concerned that the Central Bank of Ireland is regulating the Israeli Bonds Issuance Programme and, thereby, facilitating the sale throughout Europe of bonds which are funding genocide in Gaza.
This Council notes that:
i. The bonds, known as Israel Bonds, have, since 1951, raised funds for the Israeli Treasury for use across the Israeli economy including the financing of the apartheid system, the Israeli military and illegal settlements
ii. The bonds are now being advertised as war bonds and are funding the genocide in Gaza
Council further notes that
i. In January 2024 the International Court of Justice (ICJ) confirmed the plausibility of the charge of genocide against Israel
ii. In June 2024 the UN’s International Commission of Inquiry on Palestine found that Israel’s actions in Gaza “constitute the war crimes of wilful killing and mistreatment, and the crime against humanity of extermination”
iii. In July 2024 an ICJ ruling declared that Israel is committing the crime of apartheid and its entire regime of military occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and must end immediately (iv) all institutions are under obligation under international law to prevent genocide and abuse of human rights Council believes that the Central Bank of Ireland ... view the full minutes text for item 6. |

Questions to the Chief Executive 10.03.25 Additional documents: Minutes: Q.1 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager if there is any update on the resurfacing of Tritonville Road, Sandymount road and footpaths as long promised.
Q.2 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager to give details of the Cleansing regime for the Dodder Greenway in particular the stretch from Ballsbridge to Anglesey Bridge.
Q.3 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager when works on the Columbarium Wall and related landscaping works will finally be started and finished and what are the management plans for same.
Q.4 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager if there is any update on the works to improve the water quality of Sandymount and Merrion Strands and if there is any update from the OPW in relation to the Flood Protection works.
Q.5 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager if planning permission for the new US Embassy in Ballsbridge has been granted and if he could liase with the Embassy as to their plans to progress this project.
Q.6 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager if he could discuss with the Public Lighting Department the possibility of providing the following improved Public Lighting at Mulberry Lane as requested:
Would if possible to contact DCC and the relevant street lighting department/people for Donnybrook about the following:
We would like DCC to replace the existing very old orange light bulb that sits on the green pole on the actual corner, immediately in front of our building.
The other street light bulbs on Mulberry Lane have been replaced with new energy efficient white LED lights. A new white bulb on this corner pole, would enhance the lane, light our Partyshop fascia and the red brick work of the new building.
Would also create a much safer area to walk by. We leave on our own building lights to enhance the area at night as Mulberry Restaurant is closed down.
Q.7 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager if he will contact the relevant DCC Departments to ensure that the Developers of the Co-Living development on the site of the former Kiely’s Pub ensure that the condition of the laneway is brought back to proper standards following completion of their works and to request planning Enforcement to ensure that all requirements are met as per email supplied with this question
Also I have written (emailed three times) DCC about the state of the ground on Mulberry lane left after the developers (Westridge Real Estate and their contractors).
I have not heard back.
Q.8 Councillor Rory Hogan To ask the area manager if special priority could be given to the resurfacing of the road outside (Details supplied) as the potholes on the road caused a local resident to sprain their ankle.
Q.9 Councillor Rory Hogan To ask the area manager if CCTV cameras could be installed at the traffic light junction at the end of Leinster Road coming onto Rathmines Road.
