Motions 11.11.24 pdf icon PDF 302 KB

Additional documents:

Minutes:

Motion 1 from Councillor Dermot Lacey

This Committee notes and welcomes the comprehensive submission made on behalf of St. Louis School Rathmines and requests the Traffic Team to give an equally comprehensive response on what action will now be taken on foot of this and many previous submissions from and on behalf of the School over the last few years.

As we settle into the new school year, I would like to just send an email regarding the intervention ideas that were created by Ciarán Ferrie and the students of St. Louis for safer routes to school. We spent last year consulting with students, teachers and parents on how we could make the area around the school safer for our students, and Ciarán created a report with both low-cost and higher-cost interventions. Please find the report attached, along with a Safer Routes Flyer.

We want to continue to keep the momentum going this year in making the area around St. Louis safer for all. The students, staff, parents and Ciarán feel very strongly about this and would appreciate your support in helping us achieve our goal.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do from my side to help.’

Order:Report to Councillor

Motion 2 from Councillor Dermot Lacey

This Committee requests the Manager to examine the possibility of providing easier access to the bench at the top of the hill in the Ranelagh Gardens playground as it can be too slippy for children to access sometimes.

Order:Report to Councillor

Motion 3 from Councillor Dermot Lacey

This Committee requests a full update on the works that should now be finished at the Donnybrook Graveyard and a timeline as to when the works will be completed and the units in the Columbarium walls available for purchase.

Order:Report to Councillor

Motion 4 from Councillor Dermot Lacey

This Committee, noting that much of the work required has already been completed through the National Inventory process, requests the Chief Executive to take all necessary steps to include the current United States of America Embassy on the list of protected structures.

Order:Agreed

Motion 5 from Councillor Fiona Connelly

Could an alternative greening strategy be proposed by parks for Fergus Road in Terenure? This could include providing residents on the street with trees for planting in their own front gardens, planting smaller trees in planters or using some of the road space for tree planting similar to other streets that have been planted up by DCC – example Reuben Street in Dublin 8. Residents are very unhappy with the recent news that the trees are to be removed and replaced in an adjacent location. Would it be possible to have a consultation with residents to navigate a better solution to maintain the greenery on Fergus Road. There are roads similar to Fergus Road in the area and this has the potential to be a model for improving the green space on a road and maintain quality footpaths without tree roots  ...  view the full minutes text for item 8.

Questions to the Chief Executive 11.11.24 pdf icon PDF 746 KB

Minutes:

Q.1      Councillor Dermot Lacey

To ask the Manager if he will request the Arts Officer to examine the issues contained in the email submitted with this question concerning the completion of the original Richard Crosbie statue in Ranelagh Gardens.

‘It is unique for Dublin City Council to erect a statue 'outside the canals'.

The initial plans for the Crosbie statue included a ‘mosaic' type front-piece to the statue, which would explain the artist’s idea about his work.

The artist decided to concentrate on the young Crosbie, a boy who had invention and exploration on his mind and was curious about what could and would be achieved in the future.

I think it is a great statue but without the explanation of the 'front-piece', it remains inaccessible for many.

At the time we were told that the money to complete the work of art had dried up, due to the Crash, but that it would be completed sometime in the future. As someone who goes through Ranelagh Gardens regularly, it is not unusual to come across tourists and others wondering as to what the statue of Crosbie 'is about'. Many tourists are now venturing over the canals to visit, for example, Dublin 6. Visitors to Ranelagh Gardens are charmed and thrilled to come across the statue, especially if there is a local on-hand to explain its significance.

I think it is really important and it would be significant, after 16 years to have this work of art completed, As Lord Mayor you are in a unique position, with the cooperation of local councillors to see that this is achieved’.

Reply:

The City Arts Office will consult with Parks and report as soon as possible as to the feasibility of the Cllr’s proposal.

Q.2      Councillor Daithí Doolan

To ask the Director of Services to please give an update on progress made in the construction of new dressing rooms in Brickfield Park, Drimnagh Dublin 2 and please include any date for the commencement of the construction work and planned engagements with local football teams including Bosco’s FC.

Reply:

An architect integrated design team will be appointed as soon as possible to progress the design for the new changing rooms in Brickfield Park to Part 8 and onto tender and construction stage. Consultation with the various stakeholders will be included as part of this process. Provision has been made in the capital programme for this project.

Q.3      Councillor Dermot Lacey

To ask the Manager if attention could be given to cleaning and weeding Castlewood Avenue leading up to Gullistan and if representations could be made to the Dublin City Bin Company in relation to Non Collections and consequent littering as detailed in the email submitted with this Question.

“Dear Councillor

I am writing to request if a case could be made to the Council to engage in street cleaning and weed removal on Castlewood Avenue running to Gullistan. It has become extremely neglected and I have requested the Council but nothing has  ...  view the full minutes text for item 9.
