Order: Report to Councillor.
Motion 2 from Councillor Dermot Lacey, Emma Blain, Hazel Chu and James Geoghegan This Committee requests the Traffic Department to engage with the Sandymount and Merrion Residents Association on developing a Car Parking Strategy for Sandymount Village. Order: Agreed.
Motion 3 from Councillor Dermot Lacey This Committee agrees to recommence discussions on possible options for the land between Clonskeagh Bridge and Strand Terrace and to try and bring everyone back to the table to discuss these options. Order: Report to Councillor.
Motion 4 from Councillor Dermot Lacey This Committee requests the Manager to undertake a serious review of the maintenance and management of Heskin Court. Order: Agreed.
Motion 5 from Councillor Fiona Connelly Rathgar is a wonderful local village with high pedestrian traffic and inviting places to eat. Unfortunately litter is a persistent issue. Could Rathgar village be audited to ensure that there are enough bins to serve the community? Many residents have raised this issue and are concerned that the increase in litter is due to the lack and the recent removal of some bins in the village. An audit of the bins would indicate where they could be placed to best serve the community and keep Rathgar village litter free. Order: Agreed.
Motion 6 from Councillor Punam Rane That the Chief Executive conducts a Safety Assessment at the junction of Rathgar Road and Highfield Road with a view to addressing this issue. At this junction, the cycle lane terminates abruptly, posing a significant danger to motorists as well as the cyclists, particularly during peak traffic hours. The increased traffic volume during these times exacerbates the risk of accidents, necessitating immediate preventive action. Order: Agreed.
Motion 7 from Councillor Mannix Flynn This meeting of Dublin City Council call on the Management to install a railing / fence around Dig Street flats that would bring the grass verge into the housing state and add to the play area for children and the immunity area for all the residents. This would also alleviate and reduce the levels of antisocial behaviour regular occurrence on this grass verge. Order: Report to Councillor.
Motion 8 from Councillor Mannix Flynn That this meeting of Dublin City Council Southeast area call on the management of Dublin City Council to initiate a precinct and Street improvement plan for the entire area of Camden St; Wexford ... view the full minutes text for item 8. |

Questions to the Chief Executive 08.07.24 PDF 216 KB Additional documents: Minutes:
Q.1 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager if he will arrange for a clean-up of the site at the Gullistan Depot as referred to in the email submitted with this question:
“DCC now owns the ESB yard and it's very overgrown and probably harbouring vermin. Maybe it’s rewilding policy but I think it shows how the DCC Officials don’t really care about the residents of Gulistan.”
Reply: A clean-up of this area will be arranged at the earliest possible time.
Q.2 Councillor Dermot Lacey To ask the Manager if the Roads maintenance and Footpath Maintenance team will examine the road and footpaths on Merton Drive and area with a view to including them on the upgrade programme for the coming year.
Some details are submitted with this Question for information: ‘My elderly mother and myself are residents here for over 55 years, and have never seen the pavements and roads in such disrepair. They are hazardous for us, and for many of the older people/people with mobility issues in the area who would like to get out for even a short walk daily, but are in fear of falling. If only the paths and pavements got the same attention as the cycle lanes, for which there seems to be a bottomless budget!!! I contacted Dublin City Council regarding this issue in 2022 and again last year, when I also uploaded photos. Since then, work was carried out on both Park Drive and Tudor Road, and we were hopeful that it would be continued down to Merton Drive, but no!’
Reply: Merton Drive is not on the 2024 carriageway resurfacing or pavement reconstruction Programme of Works. The Area Engineer will carry out an inspection of the aforementioned road/pavement. Any defects identified will be added to the work list for repair and if deemed necessary the road will be included on a list of projects for consideration for inclusion in next year’s programme of works.
Q.3 Councillor Dermot Lacey This Committee requests the Manager to investigate the possibility of introducing a dog run to Herbert Park. A suggested location would be to fence/rail off the area running along the pathway from the Dodder side pedestrian gate at the Ballsbridge end of the walkway all the way to the back wall at the Ballsbridge entrance.
Reply: There is currently no unallocated space suitable for a dog run or dog park available in Herbert Park. It is difficult to see how we can include one without removing existing facilities, as this park is small in size, of a historic nature and all its potentially suitable sites are currently allocated to sports pitches. The installation of a dog park would need to be in keeping with the conservation management plan. A suitable site needs to be a level open areas away from trees & of circa1 acre (the minimum recommended size for a dog run, optimum is 2 acres).
