Motion 1 from Councillor Dermot Lacey

That this committee seeks a report from the Manager on what options Dublin City Council is considering in relation to the former public toilets site at the junction of Anglesea Road, Ballsbridge and discusses what options Councillors consider might be suitable.

Motion 2 from Councillor Mary Freehill

That the Traffic Department addresses the need for necessary traffic signs for traffic egressing from Harold’s Cross Park at McGowan’s pub end.  There is evidence that this traffic often break the pedestrian crossing lights on Harold’s Cross Road so the safety issues at this point needs urgent addressing.

This committee requests that action be taken to improve safety in the vicinity of St. Conleth’s School, Ballsbridge as requested in the letter submitted and circulated with this motion:

Re St. Conleth’s School, Clyde Road.

Dear Councillor,

I have spoken with, and emailed our local representatives a number of times over the last number of years regarding traffic management in the area of St. Conleth’s school on Clyde Road.  These issues have been brought to my attention by many of the parents in the school and indeed as a parent I see them first hand on a daily basis.

It is of paramount importance that the following simple issues get dealt with as soon as possible to avoid risk of serious injury to a pupil of the school and pedestrians in the area:

1.    The area immediately outside the school needs to have a dedicated drop zone on either side of the school gate and a very clearly marked no parking or stopping zone in front of the gates.

2.    Clearly visible yellow signs with flashing lights should be placed on either side of the school on Clyde Road, clearly flagging for oncoming motorists that there is a school ahead.

3.    A visibility mirror needs to be located on the lamppost at the corner of Clyde Lane to the rear of the old St. Mary’s Home as this corner is a complete right angle with no visibility.

4.    A pedestrian footpath needs to be located outside the rear access to Herbert Park from Clyde Lane and the footpath extended to provide a full path for the pupils to pass safely to entrance gate Herbert Park.

In relation to 1) above we have noted the following:

a)    The current parking pay and display spaces (from 10am – 6pm) need to be removed at either side of the gate and replaced with a single yellow line to provide a safe drop zone for parents.  At present, these spaces are being occupied by visitors to the park who are availing of ‘free parking’ each morning for prolonged periods up until 10am and so are not available to parents dropping children to the school.
